A Sputnik sinker is a surf weight with four wire legs. When it hits the sand, the legs dig in and hold your bait in place. Waves and current will slide a regular weight down the beach. This one stays where you threw it.

When you hook a fish or reel in, a steady pull folds the legs back so it comes in clean. Before the next cast, snap the legs back into the slots.

Use it with a pompano rig, a live-bait rig, or any bottom rig you want to keep still.

Clip it to the end of your rig, throw it out, let it settle, then take up the slack so the legs can bite. Leave a little bend in the rod tip.
