Old Coast Blu Abyss Pompano Rig

Blu Abyss is one of our double-drop pompano rig for the Gulf surf. Two 1/0 circle hooks, two blue-and-white floats, 20lb mono. The floats hold the bait just off the sand so it stays in the wash where pompano are looking.

Snap a pyramid or sputnik weight on the bottom of the rig and tie your main line to the swivel. Bait both hooks with sand fleas or a small piece of shrimp. Cast past the first breaking wave into the trough — that darker water running along the beach — and keep a little tension on the line. You don’t need a long hookset. Let the circle hook roll into place.

A sputnik holds better when the current is pulling. A pyramid is plenty on a quieter day. Two droppers give you two baits on every cast.
